Aboriginal Tools & Techniques Workshop

Saturday 27 April 9-11am

2 HOUR WORKSHOP presented by Walgalu Wiradjuri man, artist, storyteller, knowledge-holder and traditional custodian Shane Herrington.  

Get hands-on and learn about traditional Aboriginal tools and techniques including:

  • rope making

  • stone tools

  • dilly bag making

  • BYO Yidaki (Didgeridoo) for a quick lesson

Proud Wolgalu Wiradjuri man Shane Herrington is a Traditional Owner and Cultural Knowledge-holder. He has been sharing traditional Cultural practices for over 20 years. 

Knowledge and practices passed to him by his family, community and Elders now form part of his Wolgalu Footprints demonstrations and teachings.  Shane is dedicated and passionate about preserving and protecting Aboriginal Culture and passing on knowledge through hands-on learning and practical experiences.

Join Shane for an insightful and educational cultural workshop at Franklin Public School, Tumut on Saturday 27 April 2024 9-11am as part of The Bendigo Bank Falling Leaf Festival. 

The 2 hour Aboriginal Tools & Techniques Workshop will cover the making of traditional stone tools, you can get hands-on with traditional rope and dilly bag making and if you want some tips from a Yidaki (Didgeridoo) pro - Shane's your guy - BYO Didge.

Shane's workshops are peppered with a wealth of information and interesting stories focussed on learning and sharing - a unique opportunity to learn about aspects of local traditional culture

Location: Franklin Public School, Forests Street, TUMUT

Time: 9AM - 11 AM Finishes in time for Smoking Ceremony, Welcome to Country and Official Opening of Falling Leaf Festival at 11.45am in Wynyard St.

Most suited for Ages 12+

Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. 

What to bring:  Sunscreen, Hat, Drink, Camp Chair if required

Ticket prices cover the cost of materials.

The venue is undercover, but in the event of bad weather you will be contacted about an alternative venue for the workshop.
